Marlin 795 discontinued.

My first .22 was a Marlin 795. I had to send it back to the factory because the dovetail scope mount is cast as part of the receiver. The factory new one I bought from a big box store was canted left about 30 degrees! Marlin sent me a brand new replacement and it had the same problem, just to a lesser extent. Sep 5, 2009 · The Marlin number for that magazine is 407135, which is the one that ships with new 795s. Midway's price isn't bad -- $25.99 as oppposed to $30 at Brownell's -- but it looks to me like the Marlin 707135 on Brownell's list, is exactly the same magazine. Cheaper Than Dirt has those for $14. The 795 is still the entry market and competes with the cheap Savages and other cheap entry 22s. I would think Ruger would want a piece of that action. I have a bunch of 10/22s but also have 2 795s. One was built just before and one just after Marlin was sold and manufacturing moved. Both are good guns.

I just did the Mcarbo kit on my model 70 PSS (papoose). It dropped my trigger pull from 5 lbs 14 oz to 3 lbs 8 oz. It also eliminated the creep. I did a little minor polishing while in the action. You are not going to find nearly as many after market parts and accessories for the Marlin as a Ruger 10/22. People complain about the trigger on a 10/22 but it is not the trigger.
