There is a manual release, it's located behind a square piece of trim on the bottom of the lift gate. The reason it's there is because there's no normal reason to require the lift gate to be opened from the inside. BillyBalowski • 8 yr. ago. I am having sporadic problems when it is not locking properly. iIt goes up and down without any issues, but doesn't lock (just beeps). Once in a while i have to reset the ignition for it to close. Lately i just have to close it manually like a regular trunk door. Approach car, unlock using remote, go to boot, press button, it won't open. Open a rear door and press the lock button on the remote. Locks chatter, but won't lock because door is open.
